My approach to wedding photography is built around attention rather than interruption. Most of the day is photographed as it actually unfolds — the people arriving, the quiet exchanges, the movement of a ceremony, the energy of a room changing after dinner. When direction improves a photograph, I step in clearly and simply, then give the day back to you.
Minneapolis weddings can move between very different kinds of spaces in a single day: downtown architecture, the North Loop, riverfront settings, modern industrial rooms, museums, hotels, restaurants, and private celebrations. The practical photography question is not how many locations can fit into a timeline. It is how to use the light and places already available without letting photography consume the experience.
I do not think couples should have to choose between candid photographs and portraits that feel deliberate. Documentary coverage preserves the relationships, reactions, atmosphere, and small events nobody can recreate. Portraits receive more direction, but the goal is still movement, connection, and photographs that feel like the people in them.
Minnesota light also changes dramatically through the year. Summer gives us long evenings; winter can bring an early sunset and a much tighter window for natural light. Good planning accounts for that without turning the schedule into a photography production.
